If your husband is a Type I insulin dependent diabetic. I do not belive they can keep him in as an active firefighter. He might be able to go to inspection or training, or another MOS...
I do not know this for certain but I do know the following facts:
NFPA 1583, Firefighter health and wellness prohibits insulin dependant diabetics from working as a firefighter due work and duties thaht might not allow them to take their insulin on time.
the Department of Defense, whom the air force is a part of. Has claimed to follow NFPA..
Now I do know that they have deviated on other issues, so this MIGHT be the case, and they might be able to grant a waiver..
There are some cases where type I is misdiagnosed and it really was just uncontrolled type II, medicine / diet controlled.
