They are happening in some countries, but still have some major problems associated with them - particularly rejection. I think if I were type 1 diabetes I'd wait until they perfected your own stem cell procedure (no rejection). Currently the transplant just lowers (but rarely abolishes) need for injected insulin and involves immunosuppressive drugs with far worse effects than the original insulin.
