Calories DO raise your blood sugar. The source of those calories and your body's ability to deal with them determines how much your blood sugar will rise.

Use your glucose meter and do some extra testing. Eat 80 calories and test your bg after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours.

The more you test, the more you will learn how your body reacts to each calorie source (protein, fat or carbs)

80 calories 5 or 6 times a day is not enough food for you to get the proper nutrition.

When you go to the store, read the nutrition labels on the different brands of ice cream. You will find the calorie count all over the map - brands that are sugar free, might be high in fat, and fat-free might have loads of sugar.

As a diabetic - you can have whatever ice cream that you want - you just have to limit the quantity and adjust your carbohydrate and calorie intake to include the treat.
